Hurricane Helene and Milton (Page 2)
CIL Broward was contacted by FILC and the ADA coordinator in Tampa to assist a family whose home and medical equipment for their 16-year-old son with a developmental disability were damaged by the hurricane. CIL helped them successfully appeal their insurance for equipment replacement and confirmed they received some FEMA assistance for home repairs. Additionally, CIL provided meals and home supplies, ensuring the family had essential support during their recovery.

CIL Broward partnered with Nova to host health clinics at CIL, providing COVID-19 vaccines to individuals impacted by Hurricanes Milton, Helene, and other storms. Additionally, CIL provided hurricane relief meals, ensuring families had essential support during recovery. These efforts reinforced our commitment to community health and disaster relief.

Hurricanes Helene and Milton brought devastating destruction to Southwest Florida, leaving countless families without power, shelter, and access to essential resources. People with disabilities were among the hardest hit, facing even greater challenges in securing food, medical supplies, and assistance as they navigated the aftermath of the storms.

Ms. Guadamor, a 57-year-old with diabetes and other disabilities. Her home was severely impacted by the hurricane, with flooding and major roof damage leaving her in a difficult situation. CIL Broward stepped in to assist, providing essential home repairs, a tarp for protection, and a power station to restore electricity. This support helped her regain stability and begin rebuilding after the storm.

Ms. Martinez, a 58-year-old living with physical disabilities. Her home suffered severe damage from the hurricane, leaving her without power for essential medical devices and daily needs. In response, CIL Broward provided her with a charging station, restoring access to electricity and ensuring she could power necessary equipment. This support helped her regain stability and safety during recovery.

Hurricanes Helene and Milton left many in Southwest Florida struggling, including LB, a 38- year-old with a spinal cord injury in Lee County and Ms. Singleton, a 79-year-old with physical disabilities in Tampa. CIL Broward sponsored LB’s fence repairs and provided EcoFlow power stations to four consumers, restoring electricity for essential devices and ensuring safety and independence during recovery.

CIL Broward provided critical hurricane relief, assisting over 150 people with disabilities and their families with essential meals as they recovered from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Their efforts ensured that those most vulnerable had access to vital resources during a challenging time.
