The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, and forecasters at NOA A National Weather Service are predicting higher than usual activity. Warm ocean temperatures and the development of La Nina conditions have created favorable conditions for big storms.
Health Equity International / St. Boniface Hospital (HEI/SBH) has 40+ years’ experience of delivering essential healthcare in the face of Haiti’s natural disasters. By the end of the next week, we will have conducted an inventory of physical structures, like shutters and sheet metal roofs. In the coming days, we will purchase food supplies and stock up on cleaning products. We will work closely with the medical and warehouse staff to ensure we have the necessary quantities of vital medications and supplies on hand. We will also be placing educational posters around the hospital and in the community with information about what to do before, during, and after a hurricane.
Gangs still control many supply routes in Haiti, slowing down efforts to procure the items needed to prepare for storms. But our resourceful team is working diligently to be ready for whatever nature sends our way.
