Since the most recent distribution effort (3/5/2025), Unity in Disasters, Inc has reviewed 122 family situations for our gift card support and all were issued cards ($150 - $300). These include:
20 elderly individuals, including disabled, widowed, and displaced seniors
6 disabled persons actively supporting displaced families
4 families with autistic children
8 families who lost everything, including one living in a hotel with 5 children
2 heart transplant recipients
Several families have requested specific retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Home Depot for gift card support based on their needs. We also provided $500.00 security deposits for 15 families in Asheville, NC, who were displaced by Hurricane Helen. There were also three $ 1,000.00 pledges gifted by Unity in Disasters that were provided for special circumstances as a result of Hurricane Milton. Marginalized communities were the focus of our efforts and we were successful. Over 85% were elderly, had special needs or had mobility restrictions with a disability.
