Hurricane Irma devastated the lives of Central Floridians on September 10-11. Second Harvest immediately began preparing meals and distributing food and water for our local neighbors. Disaster relief efforts continue and have increased, as thousands of people from Puerto Rico who lost everything in Hurricane Maria, are relocating to Central Florida. We are providing food assistance for people struggling to recover from both hurricanes, with outreach at the airport to arriving Maria victims.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is providing food resources at no cost to our partner agencies feeding people recovering from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. This provides a tremendous cost savings for the organizations providing disaster relief. By October 31, 2017, we had already distributed 1.7 million pounds, but anticipate disaster relief resources will be needed for many months. The increased food distribution addresses the problem of lack of food among the hurricane victims.
Second Harvest Food Bank is providing food resources at no cost to our partner agencies that are feeding people recovering from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Central Floridians who suffered major damage, especially through flooding, continue to need food assistance. People are still arriving from Puerto Rico because of Maria's devastation, and food assistance is a critical need following their arrival. We anticipate disaster food resources will be needed for many months to come.
