The Mutual Aid Response Network is a group of nearly 6000 Louisiana residents, led by Imagine Water Works, that activates during floods, storms, and other natural and manmade disasters. We activated prior to Hurricane Ida, in an effort to prepare our neighbors for what we knew would be a powerful storm. All donations to this fund will support our relief and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ida, as well as essential preparation for the rest of hurricane season.
Making landfall as a Category 4 storm, Hurricane Ida is bringing high winds and heavy rains to the Greater New Orleans Area. Although New Orleans is no stranger to storms, we are now facing the combination of losses due to both COVID-19 and Hurricane Ida, with our community needing more support than ever before. This project is truly home grown, with New Orleanians helping New Orleanians.
We will utilize our Mutual Aid Response Network to cover needs that are typically overlooked by government and traditional NPOs, as we did in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura last year. The Mutual Aid Response Network is a group of 6000+ Louisiana residents, led by Imagine Water Works, that activates during floods, storms, and other natural and manmade disasters. We provide a wide range of support, including physical supplies, emotional or community support, and fact-checked relief information.
By utilizing mutual aid throughout our disaster relief efforts, we give people autonomy and a voice in their own recovery. In doing so, those most impacted are able to ask for exactly what they need -- and together we are able to both meet those needs while also highlighting where gaps in traditional emergency management exist. In the long run, this work moves the entire field of disaster relief toward a more just and equitable place.
