Americares is responding to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton with teams on the ground across the southeastern U.S. meeting the health needs in the hardest-hit communities. The teams are ready to deliver medicines and relief supplies and provide emergency funding to support the restoration of health services.
In a span of less than two weeks the SE region of the US was hit with two major hurricanes. Sep 26: Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Cat. 4 storm with life-threatening flooding, dangerous storm surge and intense winds. The large storm caused extensive damage and power outages from Florida's Gulf Coast to Georgia, Tennessee and western North Carolina. Oct 9: Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a powerful Cat. 3 storm causing widespread damage and power outages for millions.
When disaster strikes, access to medicine security and to health services become early casualties. Americares works with local partners, governments and other nonprofits to meet immediate health needs, providing access to primary health services, including mental health support, along with medicines and medical supplies. We then help survivors rebuild health facilities and services and restore hope for the future.
Americares is focused on restoring health services for communities affected by the storm and is ready to deliver medicines and relief supplies to affected communities, as well as provide emergency funding to support the restoration of health services. We are committed to staying in the region for as long as it takes to help families recover.
