Feeding Hunger in covid
Feeding Hunger in covid

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to loom over us, The Government of India has taken a strict combat measure by directing a lockdown of the entire nation. At this great hour of need, The ISKCON, in close coordination with State Governments & District Administration, has stepped in to provide relief by providing food to thousands of people across the country.

By adhering to all safety and hygiene measures, ISKCON has begun its relief service by providing meal or packed grocery kits to the marginalised and low-income segment of the society comprising of daily wage workers, migrant labourers, construction site workers, and needy people at old age homes and night shelters. Presently, the Foundation is providing food relief in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand ,Tripura ,West Bengal , Punjab , Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Support from State Agencies, District Authorities and citizens has been encouraging, and is enabling us to make a difference in these tough circumstances. But millions more need us. The cost of each cooked meal is 25 and the cost of each grocery kit is 825. Each grocery kit contains rice, pulses, oil, spices, and vegetables that can serve 2 people with 42 meals for 21 days.

Pandemic Effect in India

India is grappling with a deadly COVID-19 outbreak. More than 200,000 people have died due to a second coronavirus surge in India and hundreds of thousands of people are infected each day. Many are unable to get the medical help they need. Donations to this fund will help treat patients and slow the spread of COVID-19 in India.

More resources are needed now to respond to the outbreak in India, which has stretched the country's healthcare system to its limit. There is not enough space in hospitals to help everyone in need, and life-saving supplies, such as oxygen and ventilators, are in short supply. Thousands of people are at risk of being left to die without help.

Solution

Your donation to this fund will help stop the virus's spread in India and give communities on the front lines of this crisis the resources they need to act quickly and protect the most vulnerable communities.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to ISKCON KANPUR- Corona Virus Relief in India, your donation will be used to:

  • Send doctors, nurses, and other front line responders to communities in need
  • Get masks, oxygen, ventilators, and other lifesaving medical supplies to hospitals and clinics
  • Deliver essential items to struggling families and older individuals in lockdown
  • Provide mental and emotional support to frontline responders others affected by the COVID-19 outbreak in India

While the nation has been affected by the Coronavirus crisis and is observing a lockdown, millions have been stranded with no food and shelter. Amidst these challenging times, ISKCON, with the support of its donors and well-wishers, has been striving to feed the low-income families, daily-wage laborers and migrant workers through its temples and affiliate foundations in the country. The message of ISKCON’s Founder-Acharya Srila Prabhupada who envisioned that no one within a 10-mile radius of its center should go hungry is even truer in today’s context.

The Coronavirus pandemic is serious and social distancing is a necessary component to help limit its spread yet at the same time for millions of people food insecurity is a much more serious issue since they cannot afford to stock up on food supplies.

To address this challenge, every day hundreds of monks and volunteers prepare fresh and nutritious meals that are hygienically cooked following all the health regulations as instructed by the state and the central government. The entire process from the procurement of raw materials to distribution is done in partnership with the local government officials and agencies.

ISKCON and its affiliate foundations would like to thank the governments, donors, volunteers, and well-wishers for helping us play our part in combating COVID-19.

TOTAL MEAL SERVED

ISKCON’s kitchens in cities, towns and remote villages have together served more than 7 crore meals and food kits to the less-privileged sections of our society amidst the lock down and the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though the offices and industries have resumed, the economic and social impact is severe for many people who still need our support and assistance.

While the challenges are enormous, they can be overcome by the collective effort of each one of us and requires your whole-hearted support.

Please come forward and donate generously (all donations are tax exempted under 80G).

Respected Donor !

ISKCON  is working for ''May All Live Happily'' and is always taking new steps for that. From time to time we see the impact stories from ground by our feedback forms.one of these story is shared in this report.

ISKCON’s largest kitchen was in New Delhi, the nation’s capital, which prepared 250,000 meals daily. It’s eco-friendly technology, including the use of 300 battery-operated, GPS tagged shuttle cars, helped to ensure timely delivery. In Kerala, India ISKCON was feeding nearly 700 police officers on a daily basis. Generous donations, like those provided by cricket celebrity Sourav Ganguly, who later tweeted “Thank u ISKCON .. keep serving the society”

In addition to these meals, ISKCON was providing supplies such as face masks and sanitizers via food-relief centers.
The Delhi government nominated ISKCON as a “Mother NGO” for this period, and ISKCON coordinated alongside the government and other district NGOs to assist the food relief efforts in the state. These food-relief activities have been supported by the federal and state governments in India and have drawn appreciation.

In other parts of the world, where lockdown is still ongoing, like the United Kingdom, the Hare Krishna Food For All program has been feeding 5,500 people in London, daily.

In Orlando, Florida the Veda Foundation has been distributing food to their local hospitals, and first responders including police departments, and fire departments. Sheriff Micheal Chitwood of Volusia County wrote “The Indian chow mein, fried rice and pizza were very good. But the cupcakes were exceptional!” Veda Foundation has distributed more than 15,000 meals to date at a rate of 250 meals a day.

In Gainesville Florida, USA Krishna Lunch is distributing 100 meals a day to local healthcare workers.

ISKCON New York has been distributing food to healthcare workers and teaming up with other community distribution centers.

Many other ISKCON communities around the globe are also distributing food, although in smaller quantities.

During Covid-19 Pandemic we have served (1,22,29,583 ) Sanctified Food Plates to the poors all Over the INDIA.

Our efforts are appriciated by Govt. of India

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected food security for hundreds of thousands of Indians most vulnerable people. Right now, 1.2 million people are currently in need of emergency food aid – an increase of 570,000 from the beginning of the year – as a result of the loss of livelihoods related to the pandemic. More than 15,000 cases of acute malnutrition among children were reported at the end of Oct 2020, exceeding the total number of cases reported for all of 2019.

If the COVID-19 pandemic gets worse in India, people might see a further loss of income, combined with a possible health system collapse, leading to further increases in acute malnutrition and lives at risk from lack of medical care.

"We are especially concerned about the Uttar Pradesh, where cases of acute malnutrition among children under five are increasing and where outpatient consultations and malnutrition prevention services have stopped functioning normally since the pandemic was declared.”  The Uttar Pradesh region has experienced irregular rainfall, leading to both severe droughts and flooding.

In addition, many families are facing a decline in household income as remittances from abroad to Uttar pradesh decline. This is compounded by the loss of approximately 500,000 jobs in the country due to the impact of the pandemic and as well as containment measures. With nearly 2,00,00,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, Uttar Pradesh is part of a region that could be home to 29 million more people living in poverty by the end of the pandemic

In Uttar Pradesh, Action Against Hunger is distributing Santified food as well as hygiene , while monitoring the nutrition status of children under five to prevent and treat early cases of malnutrition. In coordination with public health services, we have provided frontline staff with personal protective equipment and digital thermometers, and have been carrying out mass awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of COVID-19

By the liberal distribution of Sanctified FOOD and sankirtan, the  whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.”
