Uganda has made important progress in reducing HIV prevalence and AIDS-related deaths, but HIV remains a significant public-health and community challenge. Vulnerable people living with HIV can still experience poverty, food insecurity, stigma, isolation, and barriers to care. This project will provide compassionate community support, nutrition assistance, psychosocial care, treatment-adherence support, health education, and livelihood assistance.
For people living with HIV who are also experiencing poverty, accessing nutritious food, transport, psychosocial support, and other basic needs can be difficult. Stigma and discrimination may increase isolation and discourage people from seeking or continuing services. Vulnerable households need community-based support that complements Uganda's health-system response and helps people remain healthy, productive, and socially included.
The Girl Child Foundation Uganda will provide community-based support to vulnerable people living with HIV/AIDS. Activities will include nutrition assistance, psychosocial support, HIV education, treatment-adherence encouragement, referrals to appropriate health services, home and community outreach, and livelihood-strengthening activities. The project will work alongside existing health services rather than replacing clinical HIV treatment.
The project will improve the wellbeing and resilience of vulnerable people living with HIV/AIDS. Beneficiaries will receive practical support to address food insecurity, isolation, and other challenges while being encouraged to remain connected to appropriate HIV services. Community awareness will also increase, helping reduce stigma and strengthen supportive environments for people living with HIV.
