The project aims to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable families affected by the Ebola outbreak in the Miti-Murhesa Health Zone, South Kivu. It will provide food assistance and essential household items, alongside awareness-raising activities on Ebola prevention and protection. Particular attention will be given to women, children, displaced persons, and highly vulnerable households.
The Ebola virus disease outbreak is worsening the vulnerability of families in the Miti-Murhesa Health Zone, already affected by poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to essential services. Women, children, displaced people, and female-headed households are particularly at risk. Fear, misinformation, and stigma may delay access to healthcare. A rapid response combining emergency assistance, awareness-raising, prevention, and protection is therefore essential.
The project will address the urgent needs of vulnerable families affected by Ebola by providing food assistance and essential household items. It will also strengthen community awareness of prevention measures, warning signs, referral to health services, and the fight against stigma. The identification and referral of vulnerable people will help improve their protection and access to essential services.
In the long term, the project will contribute to strengthening the resilience of families and communities in the face of epidemics and humanitarian crises. Improved knowledge of Ebola prevention will encourage the sustainable adoption of protective behaviors. Strengthening community health workers and referral mechanisms will improve access to health services, reduce stigma, and enhance local capacity to prevent and respond to future health emergencies.
