Today, we would like to share a few words from Dariia, a colleague at our partner organisation WBWU in Kharkiv:
“The last few weeks have been very restless and tense due to the resumption of nighttime drone attacks, which are now combined with missile strikes. The duration of the attacks has also increased: They now last an hour and a half to two hours. Almost every night. Dozens of drones circling over the city and region, flying into the city or passing through it in transit, keep us in tension and anticipation.”
In her account, Dariia shares with us how she, her children and her dogs deal with the frequent nighttime attacks. You can read Dariia's full personal account here.
In response to this escalating situation, WBWU’s emergency response team had to be deployed regularly. Once the authorities declared it safe, the team travelled to the impact sites to assist those affected by the shelling.
When civilian infrastructure is targeted, residents often lose access to their homes for extended periods, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. Our team steps in to provide immediate relief: offering hot drinks, food, warm blankets, and access to electricity, while also delivering trauma-sensitive psychosocial support. Below are a few photos from June 11, showing our team in action during one of these emergency missions.
Your donations make it possible for the emergency response team to continue their vital work. We are deeply grateful for your ongoing support.
Best,
Leonie & the entire Libereco Team
