It took the CFHS three years of in-depth and complicated scientific discussions and tireless and, at some times, challenging negotiations with the pork industry to accomplish a win for pigs. Your donations kept us at the negotiating table and your donations mean that pigs will live better lives.
More animals on our farms need your support. Like the improved codes of practice for pigs, two codes continue to be negotiated (meat chickens/turkeys and laying hens) and up to three new ones will begin; one of those codes is veal.
The CFHS has been improving living conditions for Canada’s farm animals since our inception in 1957. As an animal welfare leader, the CFHS negotiates with animal industry leaders to update and strengthen the codes that outline minimum standards of care.
This process does not happen overnight and, the final product requires an entire industry to accept in order for it to be effective. That's why your support is so important. Your funding has allowed the CFHS and its Code Representatives to continue to negotiate with industry groups to ensure that the highest levels of animal welfare and enrichment on Canadian farms are realized.
