Children of the Night Case Management Report

By Lois Lee | President

Since our inception in 1979, all Children of the Night programs have been exclusively funded by private donations from foundations, corporations, and individuals. 2024 marks 45 years of rescuing over 12,000 children from the ravages of prostitution RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES.

Children of the Night offers an effective model of case management and education combining advanced internet technology and mobilized social services for sex trafficking victims.

At our headquarters, Case Managers provide children with 24-hour services, 7 days a week. We rescue youth from pimps, help with medical services, public health insurance, social security/disability benefits, maternity housing, drug program placement, domestic violence housing, transportation, mental health services, psychiatric evaluations or access to psychotropic medications, advocacy with the courts, social workers, probation officers, resume preparation, job placement, access to vocational or trade schools or community colleges, applications for FAFSA (federally funded financial aid)  - we are ready and willing to help. Our case management hotline is available 24/7.

Case Managers Work 24/7 Nationwide

Nickie,16, is prostituting and living with her grandmother in Texas.

Traffick911, an advocacy group for sex trafficking victims referred her to our case managers.

Nickie wants to get her high school diploma, and our case manager immediately enrolled her in our tutoring program.

Nickie was afraid of remote learning and lacked internet access.

Collaborating with Traffick911, our case managers identified a hotspot so Nickie could tutor through ZOOM twice a week.

We evaluated her needs and sent Nickie school supplies, including a calculator for her math tutoring.

During her first placement tests, our tutors determined she was ready for the Math portion of the GED, the most difficult portion of the GED test.

Soon she will be ready for the other three subjects which require a proficient reading level.

Case Managers still face the challenges of Texas which limit Nickie's opportunity to test for the GED because of her young age and legal guardianship.

A court order must be obtained for necessary permissions to allow her to take the GED as a 16-year-old.

We continue to collaborate with her local advocate to obtain the court order.

Case Managers Work - Day and Night

Meanwhile, our caseworkers are helping Nickie apply for a physical copy of her social security card.

We will then begin the process of retrieving her birth certificate from Louisiana so she can apply for an identification card in Texas.

It is critical we obtain all legal paperwork for our youth because without it there are significant barriers to education, medical services, jobs, and financial aid for higher education.

Nickie is committed to her academic tutoring and maintains a positive and respectful attitude, never missing a tutoring session, and obtaining high scores.

Therefore, COTN will be covering all costs associated with providing consistent hotspot internet access beginning next month.

We anticipate that Nickie will receive her GED certificate before the end of the year.

We look forward to Nickie attending our high school graduation ceremony, complete with cap & gown and a visit to Universal Studios.

Nickie aspires to graduate from college and obtain her real estate license, either in residential or commercial real estate.

She is determined to accomplish her goals and caseworkers are ready with scholarships and colleges where she can apply.
