Anisha (20) called our hotline requesting assistance in getting her GED.
She had aged out of foster care without a high school diploma, like so many of our other children.
Anisha was trafficked across the United States since she was 15 years old.
Like other minor children she eluded the police.
She grew up in Los Angeles and is currently working as a prostitute on the Figueroa Corridor.
She escaped a pimp and is living with her father.
Her impoverished dad needs Anisha to help with food and rent costs.
She relies on the only skill she has which is working as a prostitute and in the only area where she is familiar - Figueroa Corridor.
Every day her life is in danger should she be identified by a pimp who will force her to give him all of her money.
Her mother does not want Anisha in her life and her father is moving out of Los Angeles in a few months.
Her father has already told her he cannot care for her.
Anisha wants to live in a safe location without being forced to work as a prostitute for food to eat and a place to sleep.
She has not attended school since 10th grade.
Without a high school diploma, her options for other work are limited.
She doesn't believe she will ever pass the math test because she believes she has a learning disability.
But never fear, we have Raja Marhaba (The Jonathan Foundation) - our IEP and learning expert who has never met a child she can't help further his/her education.
Children of the Night case managers are experts at accessing EBT benefits and cash aid which Anisha will need in her stabilization.
Our case managers have already started Anisha's resume.
Case managers are quick to set up Indeed accounts for our youth who need to find work in entry level jobs while studying for a high school equivalency.
Be assured we will find a place for Anisha to live during this process, help with rental assistance, work clothes, hygiene and practice interview.
We are with her all the way!
