Why Diabetes Matters: Diabetes is one of the fastest-growing health challenges of our time, and one of the greatest health risks to our children. Today more than 24 million Americans have diabetes It's the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. It's the leading cause of kidney failure and blindness among U.S. adults, and a major cause of heart disease and stroke One in three U.S. kids will be affected by diabetes in their lifetimes

The HSDHC is the West's most comprehensive diabetes center: Offering life-changing care to more than 4,000 adults and children; Delivering multi-disciplinary care integrating experts from all related diabetes specialties with nurses, nutritionists and other providers serving patients of all ages under one roof; Conducting groundbreaking clinical research; Collaborating regionally on community-based programs and sharing our expertise

Long-Term Impact

As the West Coast's only clinic combining pediatric and adult diabetes care and education, the Center provides the expertise and support patients need to manage diabetes throughout their lives. For example, this model allows young adults to move seamlessly from pediatric providers to adult providers with the same care and support team, promoting consistent self-care management. It is our mission to enhance the health and quality of life for those affected by diabetes in the Northwest.
