Thank you always for your support.
Today is March 11 in Japan, eight years have past since the disaster in 2011. The city have built memorial in Ogatsu where former local hospital was there. There will be a memorial service this afternoon for the victims. We have been in operation for over three years, and helping the community for close to eight years. Permanent houses are finally completed, people are starting to move back. Ten meter concrete wall have been constructed to cover the bay to prevent another giant tsunami if in case it happens. The city is finalizing plan to create agricultural park in the center of Ogatsu. Things are slowly developing, finally going into a next fase. We are trying to take part in this plan so that children have more opportunities to learn and to be part of the community.
During winter, we have been working with the local children. Learning about sustainable life in nature, as well as about their local community. Children are motivated especially to understand the rich natural resources as well as meeting visitors that will make them proud. Miso workship is one of the popular workshop here in winter. Local children have gathered to create miso. Miso is one of the most important ingredients in Japanese cuisine. It is mixture of mashed soy bean, salt , and koji which is fermented rice. Chldren have worked with specialist who works for fermentation factory to learn about fermentation and miso. Local organic soy bean, salt made from local sea water, and local fermented rice were used to create miso. Children were excited to mash soy bean and mix with salt/ rice. There were surprised how simple it is to create miso. Packed miso paste will be slowly fermented in room tempreture. It will be ready for use in six month.
As spring approaches, we will be recieving more visitors. For spring break, we are going to invite children from foster homes. We are getting ready for another exciting season!
