Thank you for your support in 2017!
Dear supporters,
Happy new year! Thank you always for your support in 2017. As 2018 started, Ogatsu is covered with snow. This winter season is very cold, temperature dropping below zero.
We have been working with the local elementary school here in the community since spring of 2017. Students visit every month for a day to participate to our progams. Learning about sustainable life in nature, as well as about their local community. Children are motivated especially be proud of where they are from. November session was to go into the forest and find wild mushrooms that are in season. Learning about soil as well as bacteria that live within wood become mushrooms. Children seem to enjoy learning science of nature.
Many families within Japan came to stay at MORIUMIUS in fall. It was a season of salmon, many salmon came back to the local bay of Ogatsu. Children went out to the ocean with fisherman to catch salmon, then sliced them to cook and was surprised to see salmon roe. Using fillet to grill, roe to pour over rice, and bones to take soup stock.
On December 24, we organized christmas party with children and local community. Third time since 2015, it was another success. Many elder locals were looking forward to the event, enjoying Christmas food as well as interacting with children. Children decorated Christmas tree using materials from forest behind MORIUMIUS. It was warm and happy moment for everyone.
Warm regards,
Gentaro Yui
