The work on the new HSKI Complex for Displaced Haitian Children is underway. We are still in the process of completing the security wall for the complex and the next step will be to have the steel gate and two entry/exit doors made and applied. The Haitian electric company will erect a utility pole with transformer for the complex since there is no electricity currently to the area. For this HSKI will have to pay approximate $8000/US.
The children currently in residence with HSKI are anxiously awaiting the completion of the complex and are now still living in the tent camp established by us over one year ago. It has been very difficult for them but what is in store will be well worth the wait. With your continued help, we will realize this dream for the children and will provide a bright future for all these kids and others who are also waiting to come in.
One of the most trying problems faced by HSKI now is obtaining ongoing daily expense and operating funds needed to provide food, water, medical aid, and clothing. As with many charitable organizations, HSKI is facing the endemic problem of NGOs of not having sufficient (or existant) recurrent maintenance budgets and all the effort from larger donors going into capital expenditure by way of designated funds. On-going help and donations for these daily needs are urgently needed in order for us to be able to adequately maintain these kids and keep them well and happy until the complex is finished and ready for them to move into. Any help with this will be gratefully appreciated and donations, no matter how big or small, can be sent directly through this GlobalGiving web site.
The security wall is about half complete and we expect it to be ready and finished within three more weeks from now. As soon as it's done and secured, the children will be moved to the land and will live in temporary housing there until the permanent structures are built. This will offer them much more security and allow them to live peacefully without the stress and dangers associated with the camps.
Much thanks to all of you who have helped in the past and please let others know.
