Reflection and Re-direction for Casa Mosqoy

By Zoe Yunker | Outreach Coordinator

Dear Mosqoy Supporters,

Much has been happening behind the scenes at Mosqoy, so we’re glad to have the opportunity to debrief and show you what our current plans to develop Mosqoy house entail.

First, a bit of background: this project aims to purchase land and construct Casa Mosqoy, a student-housing dormitory for youth participants of the Mosqoy program. Mosqoy supports marginalized youth from rural regions of the Andean mountains of Peru to study at post-secondary educational institutions in the city of Cusco.

The Casa Mosqoy campaign is a prominent and important one for us. By increasing our capacity to provide safe and supportive housing, we will be able to accept more youth into the program for years to come. Mosqoy currently rents housing for students, which unsustainable in the long-term. With Casa Mosqoy, we will not have to direct efforts towards making monthly rent payments, and instead can work on tangible and necessary long-term goals.

Over the past year, however, we’ve identified some hurdles we’ll need to pass in order to reach this definitive milestone  Our local support network has been extremely influential in Mosqoy’s initial progress, however we need to reach out to a broader, ‘global village’ in order to avoid saturating our current support base. This will require building a better marketing and web presence so a larger network of support can learn about us, and get involved.

What’s our plan?

We are about to launch an IndieGoGo video campaign to raise funds specifically for our marketing department. This will sponsor the creation of a video documentary focusing on our work in Peru, which will document the experiences of the Peruvian communities that we work with, enabling their individual stories to reach a public stage. We’ll also use the money to sustain a better website, branding and consistent promotional materials.

Once this strong foundation has been created, we’ll be well-positioned to pursue larger, long lasting campaigns such as Casa Mosqoy.

We’re extremely grateful for all the generous donations we’ve received for Casa Mosqoy thus far. Since we’ve decided to put the campaign on hold, we’ll be saving all of these donations until we’re ready to launch the campaign with the most drive and efficiency possible.

We’ll continue to post reports about our campaign to broaden our support base, and we’d be happy if you’d like to help! By mentioning Mosqoy and recommending our organization through word of mouth, our website, or on Facebook and Twitter, you can help us reach people who would be interested in our projects, helping our organization grow!

Thanks for all your help along the way.
