Casita Linda 2014 Christmas Report

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Casita Linda is happy to announce that we are currently constructing Casita #82! Casita Linda's Board of Driectors and I, on behalf of all of the families we have served and future families, thank you for your generosity. Providing homes and protection for families living in poverty would not be possible without your financial support, volunteer work, and moral support.

2014 has been a busy year for Casita Linda, with many changes. We have had new members join our wonderful team; we are constructing homes in a new local neighborhood, Nuevo Pantoja; we have implemented our new familiy selection process, that has proven to be effective; and we have reduced construction costs. As we enter 2015, we hope to continue to expand and improve our program to effectively reach out to more families in need of a safe home.

We would like to also welcome one of our newly appointed board members, Kim Slote. She has spent the majority of her career in the non-profit field and co-founded the Women's Rights Network, an organization focused on violence towards women and children. She has recently moved to Mexico with her family and we welcome her to our wonderful community and organization.

Casita Linda would like to take this opportunity to thank the local, national, and international community for their continued support througout the year. We appreciate your past and future support, and hope that you and your friends or members of your family will be able to support our goals and ultimately our mission.

Board Member Saul Whynman announces Casita #77

Casita Linda is proud to announce that we have just completed Casita #78 for the Cazares family. Casita Linda would like to thank you for your continued support and generosity. None of this would be possible without your financial aid, volunteer work, and moral support.

This year we have had a busy and productive summer. We began buiding in a very rural neighborhood of San Miguel, Nueva Pantoja, where we currently have comepleted two houses. Both homes have been selected for very hard-working and well deserving local families; Casita #77 was received by a single mother, Maria, and her two kids; and very recently we completed Casita #78 for a family of 9, the Cazares family. We hope to complete another four Casita's by the end of 2014. In addition, Casita Linda has recently implemented new strategies in both the administrative and social aspects of the Casita Linda mission, that have improved operational efficiency and reduced costs. We have also begun our new Ambassador program, where contributors can volunteer to be a national or international Casita Linda representative.

Our newly appointed Board Members, Lyn Gawron and Joane Howard are hard working and very dedicated to our cause. Our new Executive Director, Amber Nieto, is a San Miguel native who is a great asset to Casita Linda. She has excellent administrative skills and a determination to strive to help current and prospective families.

We would also like to announce that next month, on October 11th at 6:30 pm, we will be hosting our 3rd annual Spirit of Hope Gala (Arabian Nights) at the local equestrian club Otomi. Guests will enjoy a lavish dinner by the restaurant b'ui, a Live Auction, and non-stop dancing to the music of JK O'Donnell and the Zu Zu Men. ALL proceeds will go to contributing to our mission of building safe homes for local families living in extreme poverty. For more information please visit our event page.

Casita Linda is happy to report that on June 24, 2014 we will begin building Casita #77! On behalf of all the families we have and continue to serve, all of Casita Linda would like to thank you for your generosity and support. Providing homes and protection for families living in poverty would not be possible without your financial support, volunteer work, and moral support.

Casita #77 is being built for Maria and her family in Nueva Pantoja. Maria is a single mother of two, a girl (age 7) and boy (age 3). She was abandoned by her husband and works to support her two children by making bricks with her hands and feet. We met her when she was making bricks by one of the homes we were building in the area. Her current home, is a one bedroom shelter that she built with materials and objects that she found on the land. She is an extremely hard worker and good mother. We are fortunate to have met her and are very happy to be able to provide a safe and secure home for her (see attached pictures).

I would like to annouce that Louise Gilliam has been elected as the new President of Board of Directors of Casita Linda. She has been a permanent resident of San Miguel de Allende for eight years, a Casita Linda event chairman for six years and a board member since 2011. Casita Linda is also happy to announce that Gregg Blackburn, Lyn Gawan, and Joanne Howard have joined as members of the board of Directors and our Amber Nieto is our new Executive Director.

None of our officers or members of our Board of Directors receive wages or other benefits. The only individuals who receive any pay are the individuals on our Mexican construction teams and our Executive Director, Amber Nieto, who is is a Mexican and a local of San Miguel de Allende. We operate on a budget that is very carefully managed, and more than 90% of your contribution goes directly toward the construction of casitas.

We of course remain hopeful that you and your friends, members of your family, and perhaps a local business or charitable organization in your town will be able to support our work in 2014. We are very appreciative of your past and future support.
