Housing and dignified life program in San Mateo

By Sergio Octavio Cobo Gonzalez | Project Leader

The Housing and dignified life program in San Mateo del Mar Oaxaca, continues in this new trimester of the year.

Adding to the 34 houses that were already delivered in the first trimester 2019, we had provided 10 houses to families added to the program in this second trimester.

Currently, we’re working in the construction of 37 houses. 20 of these new houses are under the architectural supervision of the ITESO University, and the rest 17 houses are in charge of the Casa y Ciudad, A.C.

At the same time, we continue with the anti-seismic construction training through workshops for the families and bricklayers participating in the process. With this workshops, and the “tequio” (mutual help communitarian work ) we’re improving community capacities, signifying for them as well, possible opportunities to increase theirs family’s stability and future income, creating a whole new world of possibilities to growth.

We had already done all due administrative procedures in order to start the construction of community facilities, which includes the construction of one sport center, and an alternative chapel , which in the future will be used also, as a multipurpose room for use of the community. For this process we’re working in coordination with the Iberoamericana University of México City, and San Mateo del Mar local and traditional authorities.

In all this stages, the principle of integrative and participative design it’s fully included. The families, community and architects are part of the design, planning and construction process. This is the way as the community involved in the program, create useful, functional, seismic resistant constructions according to the Ikoot worldview, achieving the goal of dignified housing in San Mateo del Mar.

We need to raise funds for 19 houses more, in order to build 100 houses. We’re still waiting for donations to start this final stage, with the evaluation and the integrative design process with the final group of the beneficiary’s families.
