Horse Heroes Help Individuals with Special Needs

Every life changed at Equine-Assisted Therapies of South Florida begins with one extraordinary partner: a horse. While our instructors guide each lesson, it is our horses who make it all possible.

Finding these remarkable horses is one of the greatest challenges we face. We often call them "unicorns" because they possess a rare combination of patience, gentleness, confidence, and adaptability. Our horses work with children, adults, and veterans, carrying some of our most vulnerable participants while remaining calm among wheelchairs, walkers, volunteers, and instructors.

As our programs continue to grow, so does the need for more horse heroes. Additional horses allow us to serve more participants and ensure that every rider is thoughtfully matched with the horse best suited to their needs. Each new horse represents the opportunity to welcome another individual into our program.

Before joining the herd, every potential horse completes a comprehensive trial period. During this time, our professional staff carefully evaluates the horse's temperament, soundness, and willingness to learn while introducing them to props, lesson activities, volunteers, and participants. Only those horses who truly thrive in this unique environment become part of the EATSF family.

Every horse who joins our herd has a story. Some begin a meaningful second career, while others are given a fresh start and a renewed purpose. Whatever their journey, they become heroes whose quiet strength and generous spirit help participants build confidence, independence, and hope.
