After the liberation of Nineveh from ISIS in 2017, the region faced severe destruction and a collapse of healthcare services. Children-especially from Christian, Yazidi, and Muslim families-suffered most, with rising cases of disability and birth defects due to lack of care during the conflict. Free medical care for children is now an urgent need to support recovery and rebuild the future of the governorate.
After the liberation of Nineveh in 2017, the province's healthcare system collapsed completely. Most pediatric hospitals and health centers were destroyed, leaving thousands of poor families unable to access or afford treatment for their children-especially those with chronic illnesses, birth defects, or disabilities. Children from all communities-Christians, Yazidis, and Muslims-are suffering without access to essential care or a free medical center that can meet their urgent health needs.
Hope Medical Center will provide free surgical and medical services for children through a volunteer medical team from Mosul. The project includes essential medicines, medical equipment, psychological support, and toys to aid recovery. It also involves rehabilitating a damaged building into a child health facility. The goal is to save lives and improve children's health across Nineveh.
The Annunciation Church in West Mosul donated a damaged building to be rehabilitated as a free pediatric medical center-reflecting strong community solidarity, The center will offer life-saving surgeries and treatments to children from Christian, Yazidi, and Muslim families in Nineveh. By engaging volunteer doctors and supporting vulnerable households, the project aims to improve children's health and rebuild local healthcare capacity.
