No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO) will implement a 5-year initiative to sponsor 10,000 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) across Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, Somali, and SNNPR regions. The project will provide daily nutritious meals, school supplies, tuition support, safe housing, and psychosocial care through community-based centers and local partnerships. The project will: Provide food and shelter for 10,000+ orphans. Ensure quality education access for 7,500 school-age children.
Ethiopia faces one of the largest orphan populations in Africa due to conflict, disease, and poverty. 4.5 million+ orphans nationwide (UNICEF, 2024). 1 in 8 children faces food insecurity or homelessness. Limited government welfare support for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). Many orphans drop out of school due to hunger, stigma, and lack of shelter. Increased risk of child labor, street life, and exploitation.
Over 5 years, NODRO will implement a comprehensive community-based care model integrating food, education, shelter, and psychosocial support for orphans and vulnerable children. We will: Build and equip 200 community "Hope Centers" for food, shelter, and after-school support. Sponsor nutritious daily meals for 10,000 children. Provide school materials, tuition, and uniforms. Support 300 youth with vocational and life-skills training. Offer psychosocial and trauma recovery sessions
Potential Long-Term Impact: 10,000 children lifted from poverty, hunger, and homelessness. Increased school enrollment and retention among vulnerable children. Empowered caregivers and foster parents creating stable environments. Strengthened local systems for child protection and welfare. A replicable model for community-based orphan care in Ethiopia.
