HOPE foundation Matriculation High School was established in 2001 in Kannagi Nagar, one of Chennai’s largest slum resettlement colonies, with a vision to break the cycle of poverty through education. For over two decades, the school has provided free, quality education to first-generation learners who face immense challenges—poverty, community distractions, lack of nearby schools, and social pressures that often push children toward early marriage or dropping out.
In its early years, HOPE School steadily built trust in the community. Many of its former students have since completed their schooling and moved on some are working, others have migrated for opportunities, while many have started families. They all carry with them the strong foundation laid by HOPE, proving that education continues to shape their lives long after they leave school.
We are very happy to share the report of the last seven academic years (2018–2025). The impact of HOPE School has been extraordinary. 203 children completed their schooling during this time and 201 out of 203 students who appeared for the 10th Std board exams passed successfully. What is most remarkable is that 100% of them continued their education whether through higher secondary/undergraduate degrees/diplomas/professional courses like nursing and engineering. In a community once marked by high dropout rates, HOPE has created a culture of perseverance and aspiration.
These seven years also included one of the toughest challenges of our time, the COVID-19 pandemic. When schools across the country shut down, HOPE refused to let its students fall behind. Teachers adapted to remote learning, visited homes, and personally counselled children at risk of giving up. Their dedication ensured that in 2021 and 2021–22, all 51 students passed their 10th exams and went on to further studies. At a time when many children across India dropped out, HOPE students proved what resilience and support can achieve.
Behind these achievements are young people whose lives tell the true story of HOPE. Sahana, once unsure of her future, has completed her B.Sc. Nursing. Abhinaya, who grew up fascinated by computers in the HOPE lab, is a postgraduate Computer Science. Naveen, inspired by his teachers’ care, finished his engineering degree. Their journeys, and many others like them, are turning Kannagi Nagar into a community of role models.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of donors who believed in these children.
Today, 434 students are enrolled for the academic year 2025-26 and HOPE School continues to nurture dreams and create success stories. With your continued partnership, HOPE can sustain its 100% success record, guide hundreds more children to higher education and transform an entire community through the power of learning.
