Challenge

Gun violence is the #1 killer of youth in the U.S.. Yet when young people and communities are equipped with creative tools to process trauma, build connection, and lead change, they become powerful forces for prevention and healing. Visioning Beyond Violence (VBV) exists to unlock that potential.

Solution

VBV delivers arts-based civic education and youth leadership programs through partnerships with schools, community centers, libraries, and neighborhood coalitions. We train youth, families, educators, artists, survivors, gun owners, veterans, policymakers, and justice-involved youth and adults to be facilitators of our programs in their communities. Training people closest to the roots of violence creates safer schools & more resilient communities. VBV cultivates agency and community connection.

Long-Term Impact

VBV anticipates the following measurable outcomes: -75-100 educators, artists, and community leaders trained and certified as VBV facilitators -Expanded delivery of arts-based learning experiences reaching an additional 2,000+ youth and adults in schools and community settings across Oregon and Washington -Increased educational impact through consistent use of arts-integrated curriculum, trauma-informed facilitation, & social-emotional learning -Improved capacity to scale arts education
