A New Standard of Care: Annual Physicals are Here!
We are thrilled to announce a significant and proactive step in our health program: the successful launch of our new annual physical assessment program. Thanks to your support, every child at Jemo House is now receiving a comprehensive physical check-up each year. This is a crucial milestone, especially as we work to address long-standing health gaps:
Catch-Up Vaccinations: Many children arrived at Jemo House having missed essential immunizations, and others fell behind during the disruptions of COVID-19. These annual assessments ensure we can identify and catch up on all missed vaccinations, providing a stronger shield against disease.
Responding to Urgent Health Challenges
While we take every precaution, including using mosquito netting, the children still face significant health challenges that demand immediate attention. This year, we have seen monthly cases of malaria, and recently, a case of typhoid. Your flexible donations ensure we can respond to these crises without delay, providing the necessary tests and life-saving medication.
In the last few months alone, your contributions have covered a wide array of vital, often complex, services:
Diagnostic and Therapy: Multiple X-rays and weeks of physical therapy for one child who suffered from severe back spasms.
Specialist Care: Steroid injections for keloid scars, several essential tooth extractions, and critical women's health services for our older girls.
Everyday Wellness: We have also covered countless doctor visits for the common coughs, colds, and sneezes that are a regular part of life for our 30 children!
Facing a New Challenge Together
We recently faced a major unexpected hurdle: a change to the national health insurance plan means that nearly half of our children no longer qualify for coverage. This means we must now cover a greater portion of healthcare costs directly, stretching our budget further than ever.
This is where your support is more vital than ever.
Your Impact Goes a Long Way
The good news is that because healthcare is more affordable in Kenya, your donation makes a massive difference. A regular commitment of just $10 a month ensures a child can see a doctor or dentist whenever necessary, or that we can secure the urgent medication needed for a case of malaria.
Your continued support is what ensures the children of Jemo House can grow up healthy, strong, and able to focus on their education and future. Thank you for making their health and hope possible.
