During this quarter, Project Shelter successfully completed and handed over its 33rd home to Joseph and Mary, an elderly brother and sister in their seventies, in Maradu, Ernakulam, Kerala. Joseph lives with mental health challenges, and Mary is hearing- and speech-impaired. For many years, they survived in a small temporary shed on a one-cent plot of land, relying on a modest government pension and the compassion of neighbours. Their living conditions and vulnerability were highlighted in local newspaper , bringing public attention to the urgent need for dignified housing for the most marginalised.
The house was formally handed over on 23 December 2025, during the Christmas season. The inauguration was led by Shri K. Babu, MLA of Thrippunithura, as Chief Guest, and the house was blessed by Fr. Shaiju Augustine Thoppil of St. Mary Magdalene Church. Civic leaders, community representatives, and the media were present, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and community ownership of the initiative.
This project was implemented through Project Shelter’s collective-giving model, where 1,000 people contribute 1,000 each, enabling us to raise 10 lakhs and construct a 550 sq. ft. house every month. Beyond construction, the home was fully furnished with essential household items and basic interiors, ensuring that Joseph and Mary could move in safely and with dignity from the very first day. The project was carried out in collaboration with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. James Church, Poonithura.
We are able to achieve this impact only through the generosity of donors. Our long-term vision is to build one house every day. If 30,000 people come together to donate 1,000 each, this dream can become a reality. Thank you for standing with us and helping transform collective compassion into permanent homes and restored dignity.
