Dear all,
The Women of Global Change is partnering with Miriam’s Kitchen to serve unhoused people in Washington D.C. Since 1983, Miriam’s Kitchen has been a mainstay of the Washington D.C. community. Over time, Miriam’s Kitchen has continued to find new ways to serve unhoused people, and WGC is happy to partner with them today.
Over the last few years, Miriam’s Kitchen has undertaken various projects to better serve unhoused individuals in the D.C. area. Today, Miriam’s Kitchen offers meals, counseling, prescription assistance, mailing service, and permanent housing opportunities to all the people those they serve. In an effort to continue expanding their services, Miriam’s Kitchen is renovating their kitchen and dining room spaces to increase the number of programs they can offer. In the coming months, and with WGC´s support, Miriam’s Kitchen is hoping to have their renovation completed, allowing them to increase the meals served per day and to also offer various educational and art based classes.
The Women of Global Change will also be helping Miriam Kitchen expand their ongoing community outreach project during which they seek out unhoused individuals in need of support and they work with them to serve them from their first meal to permanent housing. Lastly, WGC´s contribution will help improve the permanent housing program of Miriam´s Kitchen. Since starting this program, Miriam’s Kitchen has helped permanently house more than 250 individuals through this program and they maintain a 95% success rate (5% higher than national averages). As rates of homelessness in the US continue to grow as a result of the financial crisis caused by the pandemic, Miriam’s Kitchen is working to expand their permanent housing division, and WGC’s contribution and partnership will help them accomplish this.
Over the last several months, it became clear that the best partner for WGC would be Miriam’s Kitchen. We know that Miriam’s Kitchen will make great use of the contributed funds and their incredible work will fulfill the aims of serving vulnerable unhoused individuals and families during this time of great turmoil.
All the best,
The Women of Global Change leadership team
