Unfortunately, an eviction tsunami is coming, driven by COVID-19 & causing widespread unemployment especially in sectors employing many women. You can help unhoused women & children find affordable housing faster! They can seek right-sized less expensive housing when their belongings are safely stored. They will enjoy some peace of mind knowing they can start over with something rather than starting over with nothing.
When eviction moratoriums are lifted in 2021 & relief money is insufficient to meet demand, millions of families will face eviction through no fault of their own. COVID-19 is to blame. Families - many who were previously stable, will be thrown into instability; students will disappear from classrooms due to lack of technology & internet access; food insecurity will rise, & more. A glaring gap in our social safety net is the lack of a plan & process for helping families retain their belongings
Home Safe Storage will create a process for unhoused families and their landlords to safely pack, transport, and store the personal belongings of families until they can find stable housing and stability through renewed employment.
Having access to their belongings, including family keepsakes, will reduce the family's stress and sense of dislocation as well as lessen disruptions to the housing search, job search, and school learning processes. Importantly, any family funds - already in short supply, will not need to be spent replacing property the family previously owned.
