The goal of this project is to complete the building of a new structure that will serve as a home for the current children at the Save the Children Alliance Orphanage in Limbe, Cameroon and create space for more. This new building will also serve as the location for an educational program that will foster entrepreneurship in local and neighbouring youth, to provide post primary education with a focus on agriculture.
The Save the Children Orphanage is currently home to 19 children. In Limbe, Cameroon there are many children that have been deprived of their parents due to factors such as the HIV/AIDS pandemic, as well as many families that are unable to support their children as a result of rampant poverty. The current orphanage is run down, crowded and in dire need of repairs. The new building will provide a better standard of living for the current children as well as provide space for more.
Since its inception in 2007, the Save the Children Alliance Orphanage has created space for vulnerable youth to call home. The new orphanage will allow them to continue to support children and families in their community as well as increase the capacity for help. In the past year the orphanage staff have been partnering with local schools with an aim of providing agricultural entrepreneurship education, the new building will allow these efforts to continue and provide a hub for more education.
With the new building the Save the Children Alliance Orphanage will now be able to provide a home for 50 children. They will also be able to expand their breadth of positive impact by providing space for an education program to foster entrepreneurship in local and neighbouring youth. The program will provide relevant post primary education with a focus on agriculture. Utilizing a hands on approach to learning resulting in an education that pays for itself.
