Dear Benefactors of Margadarshi,
Greetings to you from All & Everyone at Margadarshi The Association for Physically Challenged.
At the outset, I want to thank each and every one of you for your timely donation which has not only earned Margadarshi a permanent membership on Global Giving, also the proceeds we received has helped in the maintenance of our Home, towards nutritious meals, warm clothing, conveyance for students, etc,.
I am quite thrilled to share with you all this first report on Global Giving platform about our Home for the Challenged Girls. It is in the physical sense that I say Challenged Girls, but in reality it is they who challenge the world with their abilities / talents, which makes their disabilities a Passé, who else other than Bhagya will corroborate this fact.
Bhagyamma N, is 19 years old, hailing from a rural town of Pavagada, Karnataka, India. When Bhagya was 3 years old, she was walking happily holding her parents hands, talking of the bus ride she is going to have in a moment. Little did she realise that it will be last time she is walking on her own legs. When she boarded the bus along with her parents, which was already overcrowded, she slipped and fell down, the bus driver unaware of this, started the bus, which went over her right leg. Though she lost one of her legs, she never lost the charm of life. She joined in her local school which caters upto 7th Standard with the support of her parents, who used to carry her.
To pursue her studies she has to travel and go to another town, her parents were perplexed as it involved extra money and effort. At this point, in 2008, Margadarshi conducted a camp at Pavagada, wherein Bhagya was identified and motivated to come to Bangalore for further studies.
Bhagya is staying in our Home for the last 6 years and walking (short distances) on her own with the help of customised artificial limb provided by Margadarshi. She is doing her 2nd year graduation in Commerce at St. Anne’s Degree College for Women, Bangalore, commutes every day with other students, in the vehicle provided by us, for their comfortable and safe journey. After her B.Com, she wants to do her CA and work as a Banker. Her passion for education is a motivating factor for other students in our Home. She learnt dance through Sathya, a well known choreographer, who teaches dance to our students, as a therapy. Bhagya excels in dancing and has won many prizes in her school and college competitions. I have attached a link of Bhagya’s dance performance, please don’t miss it.
One of her ambition at the moment is to travel on her own like any other normal person on a modified two wheeler. In future she wants to take care of her parents and support the education of her 3 younger siblings, since Bhagya believes that The Education is the Leveller, where the disability disappears and only Ability Appears.
Margadarshi for the last 26 years motivates and helps many Bhagya’s to forget their disability and to concentrate on their abilities and in-born talents, by providing them a Home, away from a Home. This is possible only because of your sustained support to us. As Bhagya rightly says, her leg is just a part of her life and not the Life itself. Thank you for making our students feel so.
