Greetings from Margadarshi The Association For Physically Challenged!
TCS world 10 K RUN is an annual road running event, in Bengaluru, India. Mostly the runners, run for a cause close to their hearts and they feel a sense of pride participating in the event, thus giving back to the society. Every year, there’s run category known as, Champions with Disability (CWD) run (4.2 kms distance RUN) which is open for individuals with the following disabilities: physical/locomotor disability, intellectual impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment and orthopaedic or neurological disorder. Particularly this RUN is being conducted to give an exposure to NGOs as well as Persons with Disabilities and the participants complete this RUN, on a wheelchair.
Every year, our Residents participate in this RUN. This year too on 14th May 2023, Nandini, Rajeswari and Vanaja, participated. Nandini and Rajeswari, who are students, participated for the first time. As soon as they registered for this RUN, all 3 started practicing every day with much dedication and enthusiasm. On the event day, they left Home, early in the morning for Kanteerava Stadium, the event place, and once there, they were provided with a Run kit, consisting of energy drinks, promotional materials and with a unique number sticker.
The RUN started at 8.15am, and they enjoyed every moment of it, seeing other peers running, bystanders encouraging and cheering all the way. Once they finished their RUN, they received their medals which boosted the morale. They expressed that the kind of energy and joy, they never felt before, it was an amazing and an incredible experience
It was a great experience for Margadarshi to see young girls included in this kind of event and breaking the bias and stereo types in the community and we could see the confidence of the girls doubled up and it was worth their time.
