In our last report, we shared our most recent financial crisis; that of only having funds to keep our orphanages operating for 2 more months. We spent many sleepless nights trying to find ways of coming up with sufficient funding to keep our orphans safe in the immediate future. We considered various options, including keeping them out of school this year. The most important thing is to keep them fed and sheltered with education being the only thing we could put on hold. Thankfully, at the end of December, a generous donation from Gandhi World Hunger fund put us back in the black. Although we are operating on a shoe string budget, we were able to put all 150 of our students back in class on January 7, a cause for celebration. The children are very motivated for success, so much so that they have made "street" signs for the walking paths at Hope Center with names like "Excellence Avenue, Success Lane, Pride Path and others. The gardens have been planted, and the children are anxiously awaiting the birth of our first calf to our spoiled dairy cow, Helen. Life is good!
We are very thankful to the opportunities for raising funds through our Global Giving partnership. Every dollar donated has been carefully spent directly on the children in our care, as we are an all volunteer organization. We have been able to purchase food for storage, textbooks, school supplies, shoes and uniforms for our kids, thanks to you!.
Five of our secondary students graduated in November, a milestone reached by only a small percentage of Kenyan orphans. As they move on, we will be able to bring in five more orphans who are in desperate need for a loving home. . The needs are great, but not too great for you, our donors! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support as we move forward in 2014!
