Welfare and health care is one of the focus areas of Shakti Organisation. To render the services to the elderly people, Shakti has been running an Old Age Home with support of “Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India”.
Aim & Objective:
Effort for elderly person’s care:
SHAKTI Organisation has been working on the issues of elderly people for last twelve years. As a part of its effort for elderly people, SHAKTI began working on two types of initiatives focusing on welfare of the elderly people in the Rayagada District.
Non-Institutional Care:
Under non-institutional care, we have been serving the old age people in need. We are helping them in getting old age pensions, legal counselling, cataract operations, Aadhar card and helping them in enrolling in emergency feeding programme. Our field staffs regularly visit elderly person those are in need in our operational areas, counsel them and their family members. We also provide them psychosocial care. We have conducted 15 meetings to create social awareness about the problems of the elderly people, among the younger generation and in society. We were able to serve 34 elderly persons during last year.
Institutional Care:
Under Institutional care, the old age home set up by the SHAKTI Organisation is running smoothly since 2006 and providing geriatric care to 25 inmates presently having both old men and women who have taken shelter at the Home after being neglected, unwanted and left by their families. These hapless old people are provided with nutritious food and other requirements including medicines to keep them physically fit. They get entertainment and refreshment by watching programmes on T.V, listening radio, playing various indoor games, musical instruments, singing and offering prayers. The inmates are also undergoing regular health check-up by the doctor.
Besides these we provide daily use articles like food, clothing and toiletry items to the inmates of Old Age Home. We also celebrate national festivals and other Indian festivals like Holi, Diwali in the home.
We have proposed an amount of $1735 for this project but still $600 is raised, out of which we have received only $377 ,so we were able to purchase one refrigerator as per our proposal. But still we are in the process of mobilising.
Gratification: We are very much thankful to the donors who have supported this programme.
