This project provides 20+ orphaned and vulnerable Swati high school students with all the tools they need to succeed in school, and enter the next phase of life as confident, motivated and responsible young adults. Along with providing all necessary materials and tuition costs to attend school, we also teach sustainable skills, host motivational workshops and provide guidance, mentor-ship and psycho-social support to our sponsored students within Lobamba Lomdzala, Eswatini (FKA Swaziland).
Only primary school is free in Eswatini. With limited government assistance for high school, many students are forced to end their education with grade 7. Yet, opportunities for those without a high school diploma are declining. Also, students who get random sponsorship often struggle immensely without structured support as situations at home impede on their ability to attend and focus in school. As living costs increase, this project will allow us to maintain this well established program.
Moya has been providing and continuously refining our holistic high school sponsorship since 2009. We provide all fees/materials needed for each student, and offer a foundation of guidance, motivation & support that is often missing from their lives. Over the last 5 years, we have averaged a drop-out rate of only 4%, proof that the dignity packs, psycho-social support, educational guidance and motivational/skills workshops we include in our program are working to keep the students on track.
Having a high school diploma undoubtedly increases opportunity for our students. Along with obtaining a diploma, it is the confidence, sense of responsibility and self-sustaining nature that we observe in our alumni that shows us just how much this project can do for each student. A holistic sponsorship will not only lead to a full high school education for these 20+ students, it leads to membership in a supportive and nurturing community for many years after high school is complete.
