Fatma was born on Wasini Island, a small island along the south coast of Kenya.
She lost her mother at a young age, and was sent to live with her aunt in Old Town so that she could continue her education. She studied there until she completed Class Seven.
In 2021, she joined Imani Collective as a cook.
Through hard work, commitment, and willingness to learn, she gained new skills and was promoted to a finisher in the workshop. Each day Fatma comes to work feeling energized and motivated. With steady income she’s become financially independent, enabling her to provide for her three children and giving her hope for the future.
Fatma is one of the many artisans your generosity empowers. Thank you for standing with artisans like Fatma, and helping create change that transforms generations!
