Hogar de Niños Regazo de Paz (Home for Children, Lap of Peace)

We have provided services that include, but are not limited to: clothes, shelter, nutritional needs, complete medical care, transportation to/from school, the services of a psychologist, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist, after-school tutoring by professional tutors, community excursions, recreation (to museums, the circus, the beach, etc.), and participation in organized sports teams and summer camp. Thus, our vision is to provide children- battered, abused, abandoned, or victimized by domestic violence- with a home where their basic and emotional needs will be met, thereby offering them an environment that fosters the happy, healthy development of their character. 

We also work to eradicate the instance of child abuse in our community by conducting educational workshops in schools and community settings which discuss what constitutes child abuse, and how to effectively prevent it. 

Since our official opening in 1995, we have provided our services to 437 boys and girls from all over Puerto Rico. Not only this, but we have placed 52 boys and girls into the loving hands of foster families for the adoption process. 

Our Main Goal - Fill their life’s with love and hope

In May we received the surprise of one of our boys: when he came to the Home he was not doing any good at school, he lived in thirteen homes before he came to us. He has been with us for one year, now. In May he received a trophy and a medal in his graduation, with the help of our Tutors he graduated with honors.

We received a baby boy, four month old, he was diagnost with a syndrome that he will not be able to walk; with the therapy and care of our personnel now he is one year old and he is starting to walk. He is doing great and the doctors are doing new labs to see what did the job.  We think is the love and care at the Home.

This summer the children were at the Zoo, summer Camps, to Arecibo Light House and other places, we want for them to have every experience they could have, to receive everything they may need, and to enjoy life as a child.

At the beginning of the school period, we have ten kids for the school semester, from Head Start to third grade. Our Tutors are helping them in every way possible to accomplish their school goals of good grades.

This year we started a vegetable garden, to provide food for the Home and to be able to sell some products and get additional funds for the Home.

We were able to buy new beds for the kids, boys and girls.

In August we have a Rubber Duck Race to raise some funds to provide medical supplys and medical services for our kids. We receive de help of Hewlett Packard, Honeywell, Lifescan, Axon, FedEx and other voluntieers.

This are just a few stories of our children's accomplishments.

We work with a staff that is on payroll: 14 Caregivers, Social Worker, Nurse, Cookers, Service Coordinator, maintenance personnel and administrative personnel. There is a Board of Directors who is in charge that the vision and the mission of the organization get accomplished. This personnel are the ones our children see as their help, who care for them, give them hope, love and for all they may need in a process that is very painfull for the kids, helping them heal and be happy kids.

We were monitored by the Department of Justice, Department of the Family, Audited by a CPA annually, and by others organizations and agencies who provide funds. We are thrill to have a 100% of accomplishments in these evaluations. 

At the moment we have at the Home fourteen kids, the youngest is a month old and the oldest is seven years old. The baby came went he was four days old. We received four families of siblings, which help in the healing of the traumatic life they, at a young age, have to live. Some of our children have various health conditions and we are continuously working to raise funds to pay for their medical attention and their medicines, besides to provide for all their needs. 

Were you to support our efforts, your donation would play a direct role in providing for not only the critical needs of children on an island composed of an almost entirely Hispanic population, half of which works at or below the poverty line, and thus depends on some form of U.S. government financial aid (Women Infants and Children plan, Welfare, food stamps, etc.)—but more specifically for the abused, neglected, and/or abandoned children within that category of the economically disadvantaged. Additionally, your support would minister to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, thereby helping to eliminate the environment of illness and violence-related injury that far too many of the children of Puerto Rico currently endure.
