HIV/AIDS remains an issue in our community here in Fundong. It continues to be a taboo subject and is often not spoken of in many Kom households. Better Family Foundation (BFF) is always trying to think of new ways to change these realities.
We're very excited for the arrival of a new Peace Corps Volunteer who is working often with BFF. Together with this Volunteer BFF is exploring ways to better collaborate with the Fundong Health Center (hospital) to conduct more genuine and meaningful outreach and education through this well established medical institution. As we continue to plan and explore we will certainly keep you updated with our developments.
Another avenue of outreach that we are planning is targeting our local churches. Fundong has many churches and we are developing a systemized plan to engage these churches to see about sharing important information-- maybe even from the pulpit. Promoting HIV testing and prevention messaging through churches could be a very powerful way to allow more room for conversations related to HIV/AIDS. We equally excited to keep you posted with these developments as our planning continues.
Lastly, on our recent trips to Bamenda, our nearby regional capital city, we have been struggling to secure both male and female condoms to distribute from our office and during our workshops. We have been able to purchase a good amount but are eager to purchase more so we will be better stocked and well suited to provide these to the community.
We thank you again, deeply, for your continued support to HIV/AIDS work here in Fundong, Cameroon.
