We wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!
There is no political agreement reach between the government and the rebel forces despite IGAD sponsored peace talks since the alleged coup. South Sudan is getting worse day by day and hope for peace has depreciated as the clashes continue to take place in Jonglei state.
The local HIV-AIDs educational workshop that we held has proven to be useful not only for Omilling but other surrounding villages. Through these workshops, villagers are getting to know the danger pose by HIV-AIDs which was not there before the start of this project. The level of awareness has increased, and traditional artists are composing songs with an aim to educate the community on how to avoid catching the virus with a strong message of "one wife one husband." For a woman to get a micro loan, it is mandatory that she has attended three workshops by the time of submitting her application for loan. This strategy had attracted large attendance from women, and even good number of men continues to increase.
This year 200 HIV-AIDs workshops held, 1358 villagers attended, and 132 pamplets were distributed with your donations and funds donated by South Sudanese community in Diaspora (USA, UK, and Australia).
We have now increased six victims volunteering as trainers. They hold talks with villagers how to use a condom by demonstrating how to wear it. Due to cultural sensitive this did not go well with villagers. They are encouraging local leaders to talk on the dangers of AID, and promote a policy one wife one husband. We do it aggressively and loudly.
In the next quarter, a new field update will be posted, so that you get to know what your contribution is helping to impact from the ground.
