South Sudan on the Brink of Famine as Fighting Rages On. Aid agencies predict that South Sudan could be headed for the worst famine since the 1984 Ethiopian famine.

The United Nations has warned that a famine looms if there is no end to the fighting that erupted in mid-December between the government and rebels. More than a third of the nation's roughly 11 million people could be on the brink of starvation by the end of the year, UN officials claim.

Additional aid is needed to combat this alarming crisis.

The local workshop we do is very important for the rural community to understand the danger pose by HIV/AIDs. Before we started this campaign, the level of awareness was low in Omilling. These days women are talking openly about it. We have also introduced a new strategy to attract villagers to attend the educational workshop. We tell women in Omilling to get a microloan one must attend HIV/AIDs workshop. This have boasted the attendance very high from 100 to 450 per month. Women and young girls are our target, but we do allow men to attend as well.

Two-HIV victims (now trainer) have been talking to villagers on how to avoid contracting it, encouraging traditional leaders to talk to villagers on the dangers of the virus, and promote the policy of one wife one husband. We do it aggressively and loudly.
