Dear friends,
We are back again to share some wonderful news about the great work that our staff is doing in remote areas. In this report, we would like to tell you the story of Rupa Bista (name changed), a 22-year-old female resident of Soru-7, Mugu, from a middle-class family where agriculture sustains their livelihood. On the morning of April 6, 2024, she went to the nearby forest in search of mushrooms. Tragically, a stone fell from a cliff, striking her left orbital region. Realizing she had sustained a cut on her left forehead, causing continuous bleeding, she promptly used her scarf as a makeshift bandage and proceeded towards PHASE Nepal's station in Shipa, accompanied by a friend.
Upon arriving at the station around 1:30 PM, Rupa underwent examination by the PHASE Nepal staff. They diagnosed a 2.5 cm long and 0.5 cm deep cut injury on her left orbital region with active bleeding. Despite the injury, she displayed no loss of consciousness or dizziness, maintaining a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 15/15 and unaffected ocular movement. The staff swiftly cleaned the wound with normal saline and betadine before administering four sutures under local anesthesia to halt the bleeding. Subsequently, the wound was dressed with sterile gauze and bandaged.
With no signs of internal cranial injury, Rupa was discharged with a prescription for medicines including cap Ampicloxacillin 500mg PO QIDS for 5 days and Tab Paracetamol 500mg PO TDS for 5 days. She received counseling on recognizing danger signs and adhering to alternate-day dressing protocols. Rupa diligently followed up for dressing and has seen improvement.
Expressing her gratitude, Rupa thanked PHASE Nepal for their exemplary service in such a remote area. She said, "The care I received at PHASE Nepal's station was exceptional. My wound is healing well, and I am grateful for the service provided by PHASE Nepal."
We appreciate the continued support of our donors, whose generosity enables us to provide critical medical care to individuals like Rupa in remote areas. Your contributions make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.
Thank you,
PHASE Nepal Team
