Dear friends,
We are back again to share with you some wonderful news about the great work that our staff are doing in the remote areas. In this report, we would like to tell you the story of Samjhana Shahi ( name change), a 17-year-old pregnant woman from Soru 1, Natharpu, and Mugu, who lives with her mother, three younger brothers, and her spouse. Throughout her first pregnancy, she consistently attended ANC check ups following government protocols.
On September 30, 2023, she experienced stomach and back pain, initially keeping it to herself. As the pain intensified, she reached out to her mother, leading to a team visit from PHASE Nepal healthcare professionals. Recognizing signs of labor, including breech delivery complications, the team monitored Samjhana's vital signs, revealing distress. Despite challenges such as Samjhana's weakened state and refusal to eat, the healthcare team successfully facilitated a breech delivery on October 1, 2023, without complications.
The premature baby girl, weighing 2200 grams, received immediate care and was advised Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) method . Post-delivery, the baby's weight increased to 2500 grams on October 13. Jaundice was addressed through sunlight exposure, and comprehensive counseling covered vaccinations, breastfeeding, iron supplements, and family planning for Samjhana.
Continued support is crucial for Samjhana and her newborn's well-being, with financial assistance required for vaccinations and supplements. Community awareness programs on maternal and child health are essential for long-term impact. This support is possible all because of your help. Your support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable mothers, offering them the support they require during challenging times. Thank you sincerely for your invaluable contribution to the well-being of these mothers and newborn babies.
Thank you
PHASE Nepal team
