Namaste Friends,
In this report we are going to share Dharma’s (name changed) story and her experience of PHASE provided health services in her village in remote Bajura along with the recent health updates.
“Namaste, My name is Dharma, and I live in Bajura district with my family of six members. It is one of Nepal's least developed regions. Life is difficult here because we live in a remote location. To support our necessities, we mostly raise animals, cultivate crops, and work with our neighbors. Because of our location, our productivity is limited. It barley provide us for 5 months.
It has been extremely beneficial for us to have PHASE health workers in our community. They are a gift for me and my family because I was able to save my baby with their help.
Before, I had already suffered a lot, having lost three of my children during delivery. This time, I kept in contact with them on a regular basis. They recommended me to have regular antenatal checks, eat nutritional foods, and take iron and deworming tablets to help my baby grow healthy.
On their recommendation, I had an ultrasound, which allowed me to learn more about my baby's health. They explained to me and my husband, based on my ultrasound, how preparation and getting to the hospital early would save my baby's life.
I thank PHASE health workers from the bottom of my heart because if they hadn't been in my community, I would have lost my child again and have no idea why.
They assisted my family in making a decision and referred me to the hospital, where I was able to deliver the baby through a surgery.
With their regular follow up and orientations, now I'm certain that what I'm doing is safe for my child. Like, exclusive breastfeeding, personal hygiene, using home grains for super flour for my baby and consultation with sisters on concerns concerning my or my baby's health.”
Your contribution has helped us improve healthcare in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Thanks to your generous response and support. This would not have been possible without your continuing support, as PHASE treated more than 12,565 people through 13 rural health posts and outreach clinics, including 2,002 children under the age of five for infections, sickness, pneumonia, and fall injuries in 3 months. In addition, our health team was able to perform 68 safe deliveries and managed 8 complicated cases like prolonged labor, post-partum hemorrhage, retained placenta, placenta previa, pre and post term delivery in this period.
Additionally, we encourage people with various health related activities: health orientation, nutrition workshops, door-to-door visits, clinic education, meetings, and information sessions and support with vegetable and chicken farming for nutritious food reach and encourage for timely check-up for any health related issues.
