Himalayan Healthcare for 5000: Save Lives in Nepal

In this report, we would like to share with you a summary of achievements in our health project in the remote Himalayan communities that we were able to achieve with the generous support from our donors and with the dedicated service provided by our project staff in the past year.

Our health efforts are focused on enhancing maternal and child health care by providing vulnerable people with access to primary healthcare, essential and emergency services, and community health and nutrition awareness programs. Below is a brief summary of our activities in this completed year.

• During the reporting period a total of 68,825 contacts  (29,899 males and 38, 926 females) took place for treatment and advice in PHASE supported health post for various illnesses among them 17,137 contacts were for under-five children for illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia
• 50,604 participants were counted in PHASE community health education and awareness events like workshops, door-to-door visits, clinic education, meetings and orientation.
• 1,348 pregnant women received antenatal checkups and counseling services on minor and major neonatal danger signs, timely checkups and maintenance of hygiene, nutritious food, regular check and essentials of institutional delivery. Of these, 733 had the recommended minimum 4 antenatal visits. This represents a significant improvement over last year’s achievement.
• 1,113 deliveries were recorded at the PHASE working areas. In which 905 were institutional deliveries (almost all at PHASE supported health posts, except for 3 which were referred out) and 7 supported home deliveries.

PHASE Nepal was also successful in fully strengthening and handing over 2 health posts to the local government this year phasing out from its 2 remote Himalayan villages of Kashigaun and Keraunja of Gorkha. We thank all of our donors for this success.
