Pakistan is facing a Hepatitis epidemic as, according to the World Health Organisation, it has the second highest prevalence of Hepatitis C in the world. The Hepatitis Free Community Project will be initiated in Mardan upon approval of sub grant. The Health Foundation will be implementing a holistic Hepatitis Free Community Project model in high prevalent area of Mardan, Pakistan with the following 03 main components: 1. Mass Awareness 2. Hepatitis B Catch Up Vaccination 3. Screening
- Over 20 million people suffer from Hepatitis in Pakistan - Every 12th person is Hepatitis B or C positive in Pakistan - Globally Pakistan ranks the 2nd highest in terms of Hepatitis prevalence - Every 30 seconds, one person dies from Hepatitis in the Asia Pacific region (3x higher than HIV/AIDS)
By providing the new oral Hep C medicine we aim to support the poorest of the poor with life saving treatment for Hepatitis C. The treatment being given free of cost is part of a comprehensive Hepatitis Free Community model being implemented by The Health Foundation in selected high prevalent areas of Pakistan. The combination of oral HEP C medicine is seen to be an amazing break through with curerates of over 95 %. Treatment last for normally only 3 months
