For 33 years, Fundana has been a loving and protective temporary shelter for 6.000 at-risk children, aged 0 to 8, in an extreme poverty country context, offering comprehensive care that extends to their biological or foster families. Services include medical and psychological/emotional care, nutrition, clothing, family legal assistance, and education. This safe haven provides coherence and continuity in the lives of over 150 children per year, while their legal status is resolved.
Sustaining the ongoing financial and human resources necessary to care for our target population is crucial. Many children enter with psychological traumas from physical, verbal, mental abuse, and sexual exploitation, compounded by serious health and nutritional issues stemming from their deteriorated living conditions, hindering their holistic development.
The Villas de los Chiquiticos, operated by Fundana since 1991, is a caring home (10houses) providing temporary shelter for 150 children aged 0 to 8. With specialized staff, it addresses the urgent needs of these at-risk children, offering a secure environment to foster resilience against abandonment, neglect, abuse, or exploitation. Children are integrated into family life, receive psychological assistance, schooling, recreational activities, and health care (pediatric, nutritional, and dental).
Our ultimate goal is to ensure that children entering Fundana's shelter experience comprehensive stability during their stay, facilitating their eventual reunification with extended biological families or placement with suitable foster families. We have validated that investing in childhood is an investment in the future. Every child who receives love, care, and education has the opportunity to alter their destiny and become a capable adult who positively contributes to society.
