Challenge

The end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has left thousands of Haitian families living in Springfield, Ohio, facing new barriers to safely accessing food, including challenges with transportation. Your support helps Second Harvest deliver food directly to homes while providing a central hub for partner agencies to distribute essential resources, ensuring that children and families continue to receive nutritious food during this time of uncertainty.

Solution

An estimated 12,000-15,000 Haitians call Springfield home, and many families now face safety threats following changes to Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Second Harvest is responding by packing food boxes, delivering them directly to homes through trusted partners, and serving as a central warehouse hub for food smaller agencies cannot store, ensuring children and families continue receiving nutritious food during this critical time.

Long-Term Impact

This project helps prevent a temporary legal or transportation challenge from becoming a food crisis for children and families. Reliable access to nutritious food reduces the need for unnecessary travel, helps families safely remain connected to essential resources, and allows trusted community organizations to respond quickly as needs evolve. In the long term, this strengthens community resilience, minimizes disruptions for vulnerable households, and ensures basic needs continue to be met.
