Over the past few months, JUCONI has been quite busy with the in home therapeutic intervention and our prevention based community youth groups. However, this September we held our annual camping retreat here in the coastal region of Ecuador! The event serves as a way to provide the young people in the communities we work with some much needed time to rest and relax. In addition, there are a number of various educational leisure activities that take place as well.
Typically, JUCONI takes over 100 children outside of the city, to a serene location in nature where they can play, swim, eat healthy meals, sleep in tents and celebrate the event with a dance party. JUCONI also intersperses a number of more instructional sessions throughout this time on topics such as self esteem, identifying gender stereotypes that are cultural and empowering the youth to understand they can achieve their unique aspirations regardless of the roles society constructs for them. The camp this year was a great success. We are so thankful you believe in the JUCONI mission "because the children deserve more," and through your support as donors we can achieve incredible things!
