Help us improve the lives of thousands of children in Europe, beginning by training 60 leaders in Albania and Bulgaria to pass on vital skills to those who work with vulnerable and orphaned children. World Without Orphans Europe empowers local leaders across Europe to strengthen families at risk, reunite children in alternative care with their birth families when safe to do so, or find new families through fostering or adoption.
Nearly 11,000 children in Bulgaria and Albania live in alternative care. In addition, 1,350 children have lost a primary care giver to COVID-19. Albania and Bulgaria have started the journey to a more family-based approach to caring for vulnerable children, and now need more knowledge and support as they implement this. Lack of quality care, ideally in a family, significantly increases the chance that in later life these children will be subject to violence, abuse, addiction or imprisonment.
In Albania and Bulgaria your support will help develop 60 leaders with skills through in-country training for key carers and parents of children in alternative care that will produce immediate actions to improve the lives of over 500 children over the next year. A plan will be developed to train new trainers to increase this impact and extend it to our partners in other European countries.
As well as the immediate impact of your support, the work you are investing in will lead to development of expertise across Albania and Bulgaria, making it possible for over 10,000 children in alternative care to become safe, secure and healthy adults in the next 10 years. It will also contribute to the creation of similar impact for 20 further European country partners and the children they serve, changing the way un-parented children are cared for.
