HELPING CARAMA SURVIVORS OF FLOODING DISASTER

CURRENT SITUATION OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR HOMES Despite the suffering situation of lack of shelter and food that the survivors of the torrential rains and landslides that destroyed over 250 houses in Carama in 2014, where JRMD built 786 houses some of them are still living in the remains and others being hosted by other families.

A home is one of the most important things which contribute to the good living of a human being. There is no safety, health and peace without a home. A home is the most intimate space we inhabit; it is the center of our daily existence, where our most significant relationships are built. To lose this place, it disturbs and affects physically and relationally. Each one of us can understand the effects of physical and relational victimization.

You can now imagine how much is painful for those who lost their homes due to a torrential rains and landslides that have left at list 100 people dead and over 1000 houses destroyed in the northern areas of Bujumbura, Capital City, including Carama location where JRMD helped 786 families to build 786 houses whom their homes were destroyed during the ethnic war in 1993.

The current living situation of those families is becoming more horrible, due to the lack of food to eat  and  shelter.  As they continue to live in the remains of the houses  destroyed by floods, they are afraid that  any time, they can fall on them and be killed. To build one home it costs $998, a home that can accommodate a family of 7 to 10 people. . A home is one of the most important things which contribute to the good living and security of a human being. Until this time I am writing this report, only $1,419 have been donated for this project and one house has been built. As we continue to share the needs of Carama Survivors, I continue to hope and believe that donors will consider making donations to this project, so that we can help the survivors of Carama  rebuild their homes,  in their own  land and save their lives.

Until this  project is fully funded, we will be sending you regular reports about our work. You'll know what your donation has helped fund, what accomplishments we have achieved and what our current needs are. We won’t cease advocating for those in need until they are resettled and have a shelter where they can live with their families.
